Labor is so undervalued in the United States that the prevailing folk religion here still promotes the idea that you can do something to gain God’s grace. This devalue stems from an awkwardness towards death. Americans don’t like it. They avoid it, well, like the plague. In some cases, it’s good, like when you seek the refuge of the bathroom from your girlfriend. Just make a few farting sounds and enjoy the rest of your Saturday morning in silence. In other cases, it’s bad, like when you try to campaign for pay raises for garbage men. Just call your government “imperialist” and enjoy your dirt nap. Death is inevitable, so you’d think that in the million years humans have been on this Earth, we’d have gotten over it, right? But, no, now we have non-fat dairy creamer, online dating, and doctor-assisted suicide. Solution: let go and LEGO…
